An Introduction to Auckland
Auckland Education Centre is the Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) for primary aged pupils in Solihull. It has a clear process for referral. Pupils attend Auckland Education Centre to support their individual educational needs. It is usually a full-time provision.
Pupils are most usually referred by their mainstream school for a ten week placement. Some of the pupils attend because they have been permanently excluded from their school. It is a supportive and caring educational community that provides a nurturing environment so that pupils make educational progress amd develop their social skills and self-esteem.
The pupils have a broad and balanced curriculum. There are a range of subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Computing, PSHE (personal, social and health education), Humanities, SMSC (social, moral, spiritual and culture), Design and Technology, Cooking, Music, Art and PE. Key Stage 2 pupils also do a foreign language. Sometimes pupils may do off-site activities such as swimming, Forest School and visits to the library. Healthy eating is also encouraged.
